On 22 December, SPbGASU honored the winners of the III All-Russian architectural open creative competition “ArchConception”. The organizers were SPbGASU, the St Petersburg Union of Architects and the Committee for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage of the Leningrad Region.

Oleg Romanov, honorary president of the St Petersburg Union of Architects, chairman of the organizing committee, congratulated those present on the successful conduct of the competition. Oleg Sergeevich compared “ArchConception” with “Golden Trezzini”, which turned into a powerful international competition. According to the speaker, the same development awaits the SPbGASU competition.

Ekaterina Vozniak, dean of the Faculty of Architecture, said that 180 competitive works were submitted. Their authors were about 500 participants from 17 cities and 22 universities. The focus of the competition was on the popular topic “Cultural Center. Vector of evolution".

From an architectural point of view, the competition works were analyzed by Daria Boytsova, senior lecturer at the Department of Architectural Design, member of the organizing committee. According to Daria Vladimirovna, the works once again confirmed how multipolar the development of culture is and, as a consequence, is the development of the architecture of cultural centers of our time.

“The following areas were most widely explored: cultural and educational centers located both in densely populated urban areas and in recreational areas; scientific and cultural centers, where creativity is presented not only from an artistic point of view, but also reflects the development of science and interdisciplinary interaction; cultural and tourist centers that reveal the identity of a place and historical continuity; cultural and business centers for holding events of a high level of service; museum facilities that include multifunctional public cultural spaces. There were also small objects that relate to residential architecture.

Separately, one should note the high-quality works on adapting historical heritage sites to the functions of cultural centers, aimed at revitalizing buildings and territories. Many works pay special attention to the importance of an environmentally friendly approach; some take into account the principles of sustainable development of architecture and construction. This is in many ways a priority vector for the evolution of cultural centers as innovative objects that not only actively respond to changes in society and modern technologies, but also set these directions for the development of society and technology,” said Daria Boytsova.

In the nomination "Architecture" among professional architects, the winner was the project of the cultural center "Canyon" (author - Andrey Nikolsky, supervisor - Konstantin Kolodin, SPbGASU).

The project "Cultural Center "STEKLO"" won in the nomination "Architectural Concept" among students of higher educational institutions. Its authors are Angelina Telpis, Anastasia Urdasheva, Anastasia Yakovleva from SPbGASU. Angelina Telpis spoke about the work: “The territory of the so-called “Glass Town” was chosen as the site for our cultural center project, which dates back to the end of the eighteenth century, with the emergence of a glass factory on this site. This is what formed the basis of our project. Based on the concept, the building's image was inspired by the process of creating glass, which is produced by cooling components melted at high temperatures. White buildings reminiscent of quartz converge in a “hot” atrium, at the main “boiling point” of art and creativity of the planned cultural center.”.
