Winter Universiade 2019 is Held in Krasnoyarsk
On March 2, 2019, young athletes from all over the world arrived in Krasnoyarsk to participate in Winter Universiade 2019.

It is the first time Russia hosts this competition although Summer Universiade took place in Kazan in 2013 and in Moscow in 1973. The first student tournament ever was carried out in the USA in 1905. In 1923 the first International Universities Championship was organized in Paris, France; since then they became a student version of Olympics.
Winter and Summer Universiades are held once in two years. Students or alumni from 17 to 28 can participate in Universiade and represent their home country.
How is Winter Universiade 2019 Held?
Krasnoyarsk is the second largest city in Siberia after Novosibirsk. It is an industrial, scientific and cultural centre of Eastern Siberia, located on the Yenisei River. Up-to-date stadiums, ice rinks and sport arenas are available for Winter Universiade participants.The opening ceremony was directed by a world-famous Russian ice dancer Ilya Averbukh where the spectators were shown pieces of unique Siberian culture. Residents and visitors of Krasnoyarsk could watch it live and on fan-zone large-screen displays. It was also broadcasted to more than 60 countries.
11 sports are included into Universiade programme plus two new ones, bandy and ski orienteering. Fans are looking forward to every contest and cheer for their teams. On the other hand, the athletes have a great opportunity to show themselves.
Winter Universiade 2019 continues till March 12, 2019.
