The Institute for Traffic Safety is an integrated research, educational and methodical center which furthers enhancement of traffic safety in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region.

Established in 2006, the Institute carries out diverse research and practical activities contributing to traffic safety in our region and beyond.

• Drawing conclusions on the possibility of making alterations to the design of vehicles
• Assessing damages in cases of road accidents and other vehicle damages
• Assessment of the value of vehicles for judiciary and insurance companies, notaries; for sale, donation, property division, write-offs, revaluation and other purposes
• Conducting technical, road and situational expert examinations in investigations of accidents
• The use of advanced techniques in interviewing witnesses or participants in traffic accidents
• Expert examinations on defects in tires and wheels in use
• Expert examinations on fuel consumption rates
• Expert examinations on the quality of vehicle maintenance and repair
• Determining technical characteristics of vehicles
• Identification of the types of vehicles for customs inspection
• Expert examinations on the fire and electrical safety of vehicles
• Expert examinations on the technical condition of the vehicle’s main parts (machinery, equipment, vehicles) in preparation for decommissioning.

• The work of field-specific commissions of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Administrations of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region and traffic safety structures
• The development of regional programs for traffic safety enhancement in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region
• The work of the "Technical Check and Diagnosis" NCPO
• Organization of annual international exhibitions and forums, e.g., "Auto + Mechanics of St. Petersburg", "Auto Industrial Forum" and "Protection and Safety"

• International science and practical conferences on the current issues in traffic organization and control in large cities
• Business programs for motor and other traffic safety-related exhibits in St. Petersburg in the B-to-B and B-to-G formats
• Training and workshops on the reconstruction and automated analysis of road traffic accidents.
