Student legal advice office (legal clinic)
The student legal advice office (legal clinic) operates on the basis of the SPbGASU Faculty of Forensics and Law in Construction and Transport.
Advice to those who applied for legal assistance is provided by students of the Faculty of Forensics and Law in Construction and Transport monitored by teachers.
Visitors are accepted by appointment.
Free legal assistance is provided in the following areas of law:
- labor;
- civil;
- housing;
- family;
- administrative;
- inheritance;
- social security.
The trainees of the legal clinic cannot represent the interests of clients in court. Legal assistance in cases with a commercial focus or free assistance for profit, shall not be provided by the student counseling.
The amount of assistance provided is limited by the students' possibilities.
Teachers of the SPbGASU Faculty of Forensics and Law in Construction and Transport monitior the quality of students' work in each case. Faculty teachers themselves do not provide legal assistance to citizens who apply to student legal advice office (legal clinic).
Consulting clients who applied to student legal advice and registered accordingly, is carried out in at least two meetings. In exceptional cases, if the client’s request isn’t difficult for the consultant, the client can get advice at the first meeting, subject to the expert’s consent. However, in cases requiring longer consideration, the duration of counseling may be extended.
Training and internship
At the beginning of each academic semester, students of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of the intramural studies are recruited for training and internship in a legal clinic. Students are allowed to independent practical work only after mastering the compulsory academic disciplines: "Introduction to the specialty", "Legal office work", "Legal rhetoric", "Professional ethics", etc.
Training is carried out using interactive methods: discussions, role-playing and business games, simulations and trainings on specific legal issues.
Students are trained in practical skills and knowledge of providing advisory assistance (written and oral), conducting legal examination of documents, developing various types of documents (official, managerial, regulatory, etc.), out-of-court settlement of disputes, negotiating, as well as representing the interests of the client in various organs.
