St Petersburg is a historical city with great architectural traditions, so the architectural activity here has its own characteristics. Our requirements for architects are much higher than in other cities. The combination of these factors adds up to the formation and development of the architectural school. The architectural appearance of St Petersburg is largely shaped by architects - graduates of the IGI / LISI / SPbGASU: they have built about two and a half thousand buildings in our city. The SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture continues and develops the traditions of the Institute of Civil Engineers. All leading architects of St Petersburg are graduates of LISI / SPbGASU. Among them are the developers of the General Plans for the Development of Leningrad-St Petersburg, the chief architects of the city and its regions. The current chief architect of St Petersburg, Vladimir Anatolyevich Grigoriev, is our graduate. Specialists who graduated from our university head the leading architectural workshops, develop the most important objects of the Northern capital.
The Faculty of Architecture prepares architects in the following areas: architecture of buildings and structures; urban planning; design of architectural environment; landscape design; restoration and reconstruction of architectural heritage; reconstruction.
The Faculty teachers have rich practical experience in the field of architecture and urban planning, among them are eight DSc in Architecture (six professors), 44 PhD holders, associate professors, one corresponding member and one adviser to the State Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAACS), some are members of public academies. More than 2,000 students study, including foreign citizens.
The faculty has equipped training workshops for specialty classes, drawing classes and a unique lithographic workshop, a computer center, exhibition halls and a model workshop, has the necessary potential to carry out design development of residential and public buildings, urban planning, landscape design of urban and suburban open spaces for various purposes and accessories.
The faculty, like the entire university, is moving to the new state educational standards 3++, which significantly change the attitude towards education. They are based on professional competencies, which are taken from the professional standards of specific professions.
We travel a lot around the country, student works participate in international, all-Russian reviews and competitions. And we always get diplomas of the highest categories, good reviews. The SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture is one of the best architectural universities in Russia.
Thus, students of the Faculty of Architecture regularly participate in the international review competition of the Interregional Public Organization for the Promotion of Architectural Education (MOOSAO) for the best graduation project and traditionally take all the prizes. Teachers from other universities note the high level of theses at SPbGASU. In the competition "Architecture", which was held not so long ago in Moscow under the auspices of the National Association of Designers, students of the Faculty of Architecture received the Grand Prix.
Recently, the role of science in the educational process has increased, and our master's programs are developing into more serious scientific research. Considerable attention is paid to postgraduate and doctoral studies at the faculty.
We provide European level education. Last year, the State Examination Boards included architects from the Netherlands and Italy. After the defense, scientific discussions continued, we talked about differences between the foreign model of education and the Russian one. I hope that the staff of the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Milan will work as part of the SEC during the next defense of diplomas. This is very important for us, since this university ranks 14th in the TOP-50 universities in the world wh ere architecture is taught.
We look forward to the future with optimism and do everything to make our students the best not only in their studies, but also in their further professional life.
