Our department employs highly qualified teachers - practicing architects, designers, landscape experts. We envolve experienced, young and positive professionals, who are ready to share their skills and knowledge with future colleagues, both in the process of learning and in the process of communication.

Among teachers at our department are architects who are seriously involved in scientific developments related to the problems of preserving the identity of the urban environment and the theoretical aspects of landscape design.

The main research activities of the Department of Architectural Environment Design are:

• development of concepts for modern public spaces;
• development of concepts for renovation of objects that have lost their original function;
• revitalization of depressed areas and, in particular, historical industrial zones;
• development of identity and design code for historical and modern urban spaces;
• preservation and revival of valuable landscapes, rehabilitation of disturbed areas.

The department's scientific research cover, in particular, the following topics:

• renovation of industrial territories of St Petersburg and other industrial cities of the Russian Federation;
• formation of a water-green framework of cities;
• revitalization of coastal areas;
• protection of cultural heritage sites;
• features of designing recreational facilities;
• modular structures as a method of organizing the architectural environment;
• synthesis of sculpture and design in modeling a modern urban situation;
• formation of ecological parks, trends in the design of coastal park spaces;
• features of perception of the architectural and landscape environment.

At the disposal of students and teachers at our department there are comfortable and modern premises: high-tech workshops, an exhibition hall for presentations and conferences. All premises of the department provide calm and comfortable environment so students could engage themselves in creative work. Our equipment allows to give professional lectures, discuss ideas and projects using modern media and Internet technologies.
