1961

• The Department of Automobiles and Engines was founded at LISI to train specialists in the sphere of automobile transport.

1980s-1990s

• Training of engineers for the management of commercial activities of road transport enterprises, specialists in the organization of transportation and management started at the Department. In 1995, new specialization of engineers for the organization of traffic was introduced. The Department of Automobiles and Automobile Transport (AAT) was established. It was detached from the existing department, supplemented by experts in economics, traffic management, organization and road safety.

2000s

• The new Department was renamed to the Department of Transportation Organization, Management and Safety (OPUBAT) and shortly became quite popular among students and professionals.

2010s

• In September 2012, after the reorganization of the Faculty of Automobiles and Road Safety, a new Department of Transport Systems was established on the basis of the OPUBAT department. The presently existing Department employs experienced teachers: the teaching staff includes 3 doctors and 11 candidates of science.
• With the purpose to improve skills of specialists in the field of the creation and operation of transport planning and the organization of road traffic, a scientific and educational Center for Intelligent Transport Systems was established in affiliation with the department.
