Scientific activity of the Department of Physics and Chemistry in Construction

The main areas of scientific activities of teachers and graduate students

  • Certification testing of building structures
  • Mathematical modeling applied to the problems of ventilation and aeration
  • Mathematical modeling of emission dispersion processes from low-level sources in urban development (turbulent diffusion in deformed flows)
  • Enhancement of energy efficiency of residential and public buildings during reconstruction; the impact of natural ventilation on the energy efficiency of buildings; energy audit
  • Mathematical modeling of heat and mass transfer processes in enclosing structures (determination of the heat transfer resistance of structures in transiet processes);
  • Study of heat and mass transfer processes and their application to solving problems of thermal physics in construction
  • Study of dehydration processes in multi-component liquids and creation of mathematical models for assessing the quality of construction materials and in medical spheres of application
  • Mathematical modeling of the process of structuring multi-component liquids during dehydration and the creation of computer diagnostic techniques and dynamic analysis of these structures.

The department conducts a large-scale scientific and methodological work. The following publications have been compiled for all sections of physics and published

  • Study guides as detailed lecture notes
  • Guidelines for practical and laboratory classes
  • Brief guideline workbooks for student laboratory works.

A training curriculum for students with methodological instructions for independent work was prepared and published. Educational / methodical complexes of disciplines for all specialities have been created.

At the SPbGASU Department of Physics, students are actively involved in scientific and practical conferences in order to intensify the educational process and develop their creative abilities. The reports that our students present as part of such events cover a wide range of topics. The Department of Physics annually organizes:

  • Sectional sessions of student scientific and technical conferences with international participation (International scientific and technical conference of young scientists and students “Topical problems of modern construction”)
  • Scientific conferences of professors, teachers, researchers, engineers and graduate students of the university
  • International congresses of students and young scientists "Topical problems of modern construction" (1st and 2nd international congress of students and young scientists "Topical problems of modern construction")
  • Scientific and technical conference "Building Thermophysics and Energy Efficient Design of Building Enclosures" (2nd and 3rd Scientific and Technical Conference “Construction Thermophysics and Energy Efficient Design of Building Enclosures”).

Oral presentations are actively supported with the use of multimedia technology and demonstrations of real devices created by teachers and students.

According to the results of conferences of past years, about 20 students were engaged in serious research work at the SPbGASU Department of Physics, while altogether about 50 students took part in scientific and practical conferences. The total number of reports annually is about 25-30, of those 12-15 are oral presentations.

The results of conferences are actively used in the educational process in the form of new laboratory facilities, poster presentations and abstracts.
